Rainwater Harvesting at Merivale Community Centre
At Armstrong Plumbing & Drainage, we’re proud to support local community projects across Tauranga, and one of our recent jobs at the Merivale Community Centre is a perfect example of putting practical, sustainable solutions in place for the future.
We’ve recently installed a rainwater harvesting system at the centre, designed to capture and store rainwater straight from the roof. This system includes large-capacity storage tanks, filtration, and piping to ensure the water is collected cleanly and efficiently.
Why Rainwater Collection?
Rainwater harvesting is a smart move for any community facility. It:
Reduces reliance on mains water supply
Provides a cost-effective water source for non-drinking purposes (like toilets, irrigation, and cleaning)
Helps ease the load on stormwater systems during heavy rainfall
Supports sustainable water use – great for the environment and the local community
Built to Last
As you can see in the photos, the setup includes heavy-duty tanks, copper pipework, and durable PVC fittings to ensure the system will run efficiently for years to come. The filtration units are installed to keep the collected rainwater clean, while the pipework has been carefully designed to maximise flow and minimise maintenance.
Supporting Our Local Community
The Merivale Community Centre is a hub for locals, and we’re stoked to have been part of this project that supports the people of Tauranga. By investing in this rainwater system, the centre is future-proofing its water use, lowering costs, and doing its part for sustainability.
At Armstrong Plumbing & Drainage, we’ve been working in Tauranga for nearly 100 years – and projects like this remind us why we do what we do. It’s not just about plumbing; it’s about creating practical, long-lasting solutions for the communities we live in.
